Cultivate Social Responsibility

Long ago I was on the Board of Directors for Computer Professionals for Social Responsibility. This was an organization formed in response to the dangers posed by the massive increase in the use of computing technology in military applications, and specifically to the Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI), which President Reagan announced in early 1983.

I'm wondering if any others in our group have experience, membership, or knowledge of many of the other non-profits "for social responsibility?" I'm wondering how much is work (active) and how much is study (passive social responsibility).

Ok, let me take this one step further. I wrote a post today called "On Being Disconnected." It contains an interesting video on how we got to be where we are today.

I turn that proposition around and ask what about tomorrow? If we could change the very nature of our world to be more humane and responsible–and less oriented toward corporate priorities, what might that look like? Can we put any of these organizations' missions together to paint a bigger picture?

It’s easy to remember
how to pronounce ChoixVert. It means choose green. Pronounce it; schwa-vare. Simply say, “If you care, ChoixVert.”
